Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first female vice president , and the most powerful female politician in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her career began in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
