Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United America. The Corcoran Group, an NY-based real estate broker was started by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran then exited the company. One of the original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in all 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank until today. Corcoran has been involved in 53 deals as of February 2020. The most significant was a $350,000 purchase to cover 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second of ten children in a Catholic Irish working class family. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mom and also a housekeeper. Her father, Edwin W. Corcoran Jr., bounced between jobs throughout Corcoran's youth. Her family sometimes relied upon free food delivery from a nearby grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father, who was a drunk at times too much and treated her mother with disrespect and condescendingly, especially after he'd had some drinks. Corcoran struggled with her education and was diagnosed with dyslexia. She attended a local Catholic elementary school before beginning the high school system in St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran was absent from several classes in her first year, and then transferred to Leonia High School where she was an A student.
